An executive search firm that specialises in the energy industry. Three criteria to decide: a map of site directors in post, approached directly (they do not answer job ads); a real technical assessment of the process, not just an HR interview; a written replacement guarantee. A plant director runs a manufacturing production tool: rates, product quality, supply chain. A site director in energy and environment runs an installation whose output is a continuous flow (steam, electricity, heat, waste treatment), with three constraints that the plant director does not meet to the same degree: machine availability that directly makes the revenue, an ICPE framework and a prefectoral order under close scrutiny, and a permanent relationship with a local authority or public delegating authority. These are two different executive markets.

Volta Executive practises the executive search model, at the lower end of its range (25% to 33% on the market): 25% of the annual gross package for one role, 23% per role from two similar roles (same function, same level) assigned together; a deposit of one third of the fees at launch, deducted from the final invoice, with the balance on signature of the job offer; assignment given on an exclusive basis. For a site director on a €120,000 package: €30,000 excl. VAT in total.

The shortlist arrives within 10 days and the hire is concluded within 3 weeks by direct search, provided there is a reply within 48 h and the assignment is given on an exclusive basis. The 3 weeks run from scoping to the chosen candidate, offer accepted, when the five key success factors are in place. The candidate's notice period, often three months for an executive in post, comes on top. On a complex asset (EfW plant under a public service concession, Seveso site, biomass cogeneration), it is the search ecosystem to be mapped that widens, not the timeframe.

On three dimensions. Technical reading: process, availability rate, planned shutdowns, ICPE framework and emission thresholds. Economic management: the site's operating account, contractual commitments, penalties, delegation renewal. The human and political dimension: managing 3x8 or 5x8 shift teams, social dialogue, and the ability to hold a meeting with an elected official or a joint public body. Yes, across the whole country from Paris. These installations are spread across every region, often in sparsely populated employment areas where the executive's mobility becomes the deciding factor. Direct search, at national scale, is the method that works.

A replacement guarantee of 3 months, extendable to 6 months, and a 90-day integration follow-up, with the executive and their manager. For a site director role, taking up the post is decided in the first weeks: mastering the process, gaining legitimacy with the shift teams, first contact with the delegating authority.
