02 · The role

What you do,in practice

  1. Structure the preventive plan

    Preventive policy, routines, intervals, equipment criticality, multi-year plan. Little usable history: your choices will be judged at the first breakdown.

  2. Set up the CMMS

    Tool, equipment tree, stores, safety spare parts stock, failure analysis. Groundwork, barely visible, that pays off later.

  3. Handle corrective maintenance

    Mechanics, electrics, instrumentation and automation on the boiler, water-steam cycle, rotating machinery, handling and flue gas treatment.

  4. Lead the technical shutdowns

    Preparation, planning, outside contractors, prevention plans, return to service.

  5. Recruit and train the technicians

    Four trades to cover with few people: you recruit, and you get hands-on yourself in the meantime.

  6. Manage the contractors

    Heavy reliance on outside companies at first: contracts, specialists, quality of interventions, while the team is completed.

  7. Hold the budget and regulatory compliance

    Maintenance budget, in-house or outsourcing decisions, lockouts, ATEX, pressure equipment, regulatory inspections.

Le site fonctionne en continu. Le plan préventif, les gammes et la GMAO sont à structurer, avec peu d'historique exploitable : vous fixez la criticité des équipements et les périodicités sur votre analyse. L'équipe de maintenance n'est pas au complet : vous recrutez et formez vos techniciens, et vous pilotez les entreprises extérieures en attendant.

⚠️ Les vrais challenges

  • Un préventif à structurer avec peu d'historique exploitable : vos choix de criticité et de périodicité seront jugés à la première panne.
  • Quatre métiers à couvrir avec peu de monde : mécanique, électricité, instrumentation, automatismes. Vous recrutez, et vous mettez la main dessus vous-même en attendant.
  • Une GMAO à monter : du travail de fond, peu visible, qui se paie plus tard.
  • Une forte dépendance aux prestataires au début : vous les pilotez pendant que votre équipe se complète.
  • L'astreinte : en marche continue, une panne ne se traite pas à l'heure de bureau.

Preventive maintenance and the CMMS have yet to be structured, and the history is thin. The team is not at full strength: you cover four trades with few people and get hands-on at the start. Dependence on contractors is high at first. The first year is heavy. In continuous operation, on-call duty is part of the role.
