02 · The role

Energy Production Site Director · permanent contract, cadre status

What you do,in practice

  1. Run operations

Boiler, flue gas treatment, thermal cycle and auxiliaries. The site runs day and night, and an unplanned shutdown is felt straight away by customers. Your first indicators: availability, efficiency, unplanned shutdowns.

  2. Make maintenance reliable

Preventive and corrective work on a CMMS, critical equipment to make reliable, subcontractors to manage. You prepare and lead the annual major overhaul within budget. A measured drop in unplanned shutdowns is expected.

  3. Secure the fuel supply

Quality, stocks and flows, with suppliers and hauliers. Fuel quality drives efficiency and emissions, and therefore the result.

  4. Recruit, train and retain shift leaders

This is the hard part. It takes several months of training before a shift leader is autonomous, and then you have to keep them: the whole industrial market is competing for their electromechanical and automation skills. The role is won or lost here.

  5. Own the work organisation

The shift pattern and on-call duty need to evolve. You carry the project and negotiate it with staff representatives.

  6. Safety and environment

DUERP (occupational risk assessment), prevention plans, hot work permits, ATEX, compliance with the operating permit, monitoring of discharges. Compliance with the operating permit is your personal responsibility.

  7. Run the operating account

Operating budget, CAPEX, cost per MWh, monthly reporting to management. No one stands between you and the result.

  8. Prepare what comes next

The site's economics need securing for the years ahead. You cost the scenarios, build the investment plan and carry the site's trajectory in front of management. This is a general management issue, from the first year.

The context

The context, what draws a strong profile and the real challenges, written as they are.

04 · The organisation

Your place

A clear place,at the right level

Several dozen employees: shift operations, maintenance and QHSE under your responsibility.

We tell you frankly

The site does not yet run without its director: that is the goal of the first 12 to 18 months. The hard part is the shift leaders. It takes several months to train one, and you have to keep them against an industrial market that is fighting over these profiles. The team needs a leader who is present and decisions that stick. The work organisation and on-call duty are negotiated with staff representatives, and you carry the project. The site's economics need securing for the years ahead. And this is a hands-on operator role in the field with the operating account on top: little room for managing from the office.

05 · Your first months

What we expect of you

Your first months,step by step

  1. Day 0 to day 60

Understand the site and the team

Every post seen in operation, day and night. Every shift leader and every maintenance technician met. A written diagnosis of availability, reliability, compliance, skills and the state of the team.

  2. Day 60 to day 120

    Set the direction

Action plan shared with the team. Target shift and on-call organisation presented to staff representatives. Shift leader training and succession plan written.

  3. Day 120 to month 12

    Deliver performance

Annual major overhaul prepared and led within budget. Availability and efficiency at target level. No emissions exceedance left untreated.

  4. M12 to M18

    Prepare what comes next

Economic scenarios examined and costed, site trajectory presented to management. Shift leader team complete and trained. A site that runs without depending on its director.
