02 · The role

Product Certification Manager · permanent contract, managerial status

What you do,in practice

  1. Map the standards

For each product and each target market, you draw up the list of standards that apply. Today, every project manager does it their own way. You turn it into a single reference, and you raise the alert before a regulatory change lands on a project in progress.

  2. Run the campaigns

From scope to certificate: type, EMC, dielectric and environmental tests. You also drive the closing of non-conformities. That is where time is lost, and you answer for the date the product goes on sale.

  3. Defend the technical files

You prepare the files and defend them in front of third-party bodies that have no reason to do you any favours. A shaky file costs months.

  4. Choose bodies and laboratories

Few bodies truly know how to certify this type of equipment. You identify those that add value and keep credible alternatives in Europe. You decide alone, with a budget to hold.

  5. Get existing results recognised

Getting a body to accept results that are already validated, rather than redoing an entire campaign, is the first lever on cost and lead time. It is negotiated, scope by scope.

  6. Advise the designers

Some design choices have a regulatory impact. You spot them early so they do not turn into non-conformities at the end of the project.

  7. Build the structure

A documentation framework, a standard certification plan, a single dashboard of certifications in progress. None of this exists yet: it is your first deliverable.

Your place

A clear place,at the right level

No team to manage: it is a cross-functional role.

We tell you frankly

No one has held this role full time before you: there is no model to take over. You have no line authority and must get your rules applied by project managers under deadline pressure. You arbitrate alone between cost, lead time and market coverage. The bodies will not give way easily. And you travel across Europe, to the laboratories.

A standard certification plan, a documentation framework, a single dashboard and rules for arbitrating between bodies.

  3. Day 90 to day 180

    Take back control

You directly run the campaigns, you renegotiate at least one test scope, and every team identifies you as the entry point.
